Approval of CECONOMY transaction paves the way for Haniel’s continued transformation

Duisburg, 3 November 2026. On 3 November 2026, the European Commission approved JD.com’s acquisition of CECONOMY following its review under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation. This clears the final outstanding closing condition for the sale of Haniel’s stake in CECONOMY AG. All required antitrust, foreign investment and foreign subsidies approvals relating to JD.com’s public takeover offer have now been obtained.

With the proceeds from the sale of its CECONOMY shares, which were most recently held as a financial investment, Haniel is now consistently advancing its own transformation. The company’s investment strategy is built on two pillars: Through direct investments, Haniel selectively invests in market-leading companies characterized by long-term customer relationships and sustainable growth. In parallel, Haniel is building a multi-asset pillar that diversifies the portfolio across regions, industries, currencies and asset classes. With this approach, Haniel creates value for generations.
