Haniel Museum

Haniel Museum

"Perhaps the success of Messrs. Haniel is traceable to their depending upon their own skill and industry, instead of ambitioning the alliance and the capital of kings or governments."

Thomas C. Banfield, British economist, around 1848

From a commodity trading company to an international Group

The site where the history of the Haniel Group began over 250 years ago – the historic Packhaus – is today the Haniel Museum. Over three floors, the visitors experience how the family company developed into an international Group. You can see original papers, historic furniture and lovingly restored living and working rooms.

Economic history of the region

The Haniel Museum makes it clear that the history of the Group is closely connected to the economic history of the Ruhr area. The exhibition documents how the region became one of the most important industrial areas in Germany and how Haniel drove industrialisation in the area of Duisburg.
