The
founding company and the Haniel family have always been committed to the public interest in their own surroundings. Back in the 19th century, for example, Franz Haniel, the grandson of the Haniel Group's founder, funded a hospital and a school in his home town of Duisburg-Ruhrort. The Haniel Foundation is maintaining this tradition today. In particular, it helps under-performing young people to obtain a school leaving certificate with a higher grade.
